Australia's blackest weekend - Victorian Bushfires ..

On Saturday 7th Feb, 09 I had heard about the bushfires in Victoria, but really didn't take much notice .. after all it's a common thing in Australia in the middle of summer to get bushfires .. It wasn't until saturday night that I realised the enormitity of the situtation ..

At 9.30pm saturday night 14 people were confirmed dead .. found in their cars trying to escape, or in their houses ... by Sunday 8th Feb 09 morning the number had climbed to 49 .. by Sunday night to 84 .. by Monday morning 9th Feb 09 the number now stands at 108 and climbing ..

I just sat here and cried and cried .. the stories that are coming out on how they survived and escaped .. normally I would pictures up, but the pictures are just too destressing ..

They are saying now that the number could climb to 200 - 300 .. this is just tragic .. over 750 houses lost, and 2 towns Marysville and Kinglake just wiped out - not a building left standing .. they found 1 lady in her car with her belongings .. she tried to escape but just didn't make it ..

There are notes on the wall at the crisis centre at Whittlesea, "Phill and Pam where are you, please call us" .. and many hundreds more .. 1 girl on the news last night was saying she was talking to her mum on the phone and screaming at her to get out .. her mother said it was alright that she had the spa bath full of water and blankets were wet then the phone dropped out .. she hasn't heard from her mother since ... Channel 9 lost Brian Naylor and his wife Moiree ..

Our Prime Minister Kevin Rudd ordered Centrelink open on a Sunday afternoon so people could claim their $1,000 for each adult and $ 400 for each child so those who nothing left could go and buy clothes .. the Government has also offered $ 5,000 for each family to help with funerals ..

I pray to god that he sends them the rain they need as the fires are still burning and many as still out of control ..... they say it could be weeks before they have a final number of deaths .. just so so tragic ....

I am praying for them all ..

Mayes Cottage

Welcome to Mayes Cottage ... Located at Woodridge, Logan

It was orignally known at "Pleasant Place" .. because it's on a high hill - even tho is a terribly hot
day here in Logan yesterday the breeze just beautiful - we could have sat there all day !

The Family Tree

The Mayes used to grow alot of fruit - well they did anything they could to make money .. so they found good money in Honey - the picture below is a Honey Spinner .. they put the honeycomb into special slots inside the round tub and then using the handle - they spun the honey from the comb and it came out of the spout down the bottom ..

This piano is roughly around 120 - 150 yrs old the tour guide was telling us .. the panels on the front of the piano - you can't see it in the photo but there are 3 screw holes in the left and right panels - that indicates to the historians that this piano at one stage in it's early life had candelabra's attached to it ..

Now this one I couldn't work out - I thought it was a mixmaster .. lol .. but NO it's a butter churner - imagine having to stand there with the cream fresh from the cow's and using this to make butter ! ...

This one I knew - it's a MEAT SAFE .. water was poured into the top and it would run down the hessian bag's keeping the meat inside cool - this HAD to placed in a position where it was getting a breeze all day otherwise the meat would go off .. the breeze would cool the water on the bag's hence keeping the food cool .. amazing huh ?

A baby's cot ! ..

Their original wood stove

The entrance to the house as you come up the front steps ..

This was a stool made by 1 of the Maye's sons .. he worked at Waterford which is quite a walk from where the house is .. he worked on this at work and carried it home every night .. it would be about 10 klms or more ..

These are the floor boards on the verandah .. you can definately tell the difference to which are the "original" boards and which ones have been replaced ..

The view towards Mt Stapylton - Beenleigh area .. you can actually see Mt Tamborine and on a clear day you can also see some houses up there as well ..

The building you can see in the distance - is the ORIGINAL slab hut they lived in .. they lived in this for 16 yrs while they cleared the land .. they then built the house when they had enough timber ..

The milking shed which is just about to fall over ...

Australia & ODI's #2

OK ! .. so we bowled tightly and fought back very very hard - but at the end of the day it just wasn't good enough 1 run from 1 ball - bang they hit a 4 ..

I really would have hated to have been in the australian locker room last night - they need to do some serious re-thinking if we're going to come out on top !

Australia and ODI's ...

Oh my fucking god - what the hell is wrong with Australia ? .. this is ridiculous .. blind freddy could do better I'm telling you !

We only won 1 game againist RSA - and now we're playing NZ and we're no fucking better - in fact we're worse ! .. 4-50 .. how disgusting is that ! - with mind you 2 RUN OUTS ! .. Clarke and Ponting - captain and vice captain - just great huh ?!

The team has gone down hill since Gilly left .. I don't care what anyone says .. they better pull their finger out and do something or we are going to be the laughing stock of the world !

Fish bones, throats and hospitals !

I had been waiting for dinner all day - FISH and vegies .. my brother is an avid fisherman and loves being out on the water .. anyway phyliss took out some fish yesterday morning ..

She brought our dinner up about 3pm i think i was and all i could do was drool over it - love fish ! .. anyway dinner time came and wouldn't ya know it - yep i got a bloody fish bone stuck in my throat .. phyliss felt awful as she thought she'd got it all - but obviously didn't ..

Peter, Phyliss and I all had the same fish - but it was unlucky me who had to swallow the bloody thing .. we tried everything - bread, vinegar and water (apparently that helps to dissolve the bone), sultana's, swallowing fish oil tablets (they were big hoping they would dislodge it), bread and peanut paste, nutrigrain - you name it we tried it ..

We ended up at the after hours GP at Logan Hospital - only to be told go home, it should dislodge over night - the dr couldnt even see it .. so we came home .. I fed the baby birds, and headed to bed ..

12.30am i woke up busting for the loo - too scared to swallow in case i felt the bloody thing - i did anyway - yep it was still there .. got back into bed starting gagging - it was horrible .. eventually fell asleep .. woke up this morning at 6.30am and couldn't feel it .. here it is 9.16am and i still can't feel it - so hopefully it's GONE ! and GONE FOR GOOD !!!!

a lesson to learned - I AM NOT EATING FISH EVER AGAIN !!!!
